In May I'm planning on traveling through Laos and Vietnam with a friend for approx. three weeks. We're not sure if we should fly into Saigon to take the train to Hanoi and continue into Laos or fly to Bangkok, take the train to Vientanne and continue through Laos to Hanoi and then down to Saigon.
What is the best course for that amount of time, with more time spent in Laos? Is it better to fly between Hanoi and Luang Prabang or cross the border by land? What things should we be aware of?
