Davao Synchronized Traffic Signalization to Be Tested (Again?)

Anyone who has been to downtown Davao last December 18, 2006 will remember being stucked in an almost impossible traffic situation. Everyone was surely late for his day job.

That was when the Traffic Synchronization Program of Davao City went on dry run. All traffic signals in twenty-seven intersections where activated during that day. With traffic getting much worse, it was halted by City Mayor Duterte after the third day of testing.

This time, Traffic Management Center, headed by Celso T. Gempesaw is determined not to repeat the same mistake again. Four American Consultants of the Abratique and Associates Philippines, Inc. have been commissioned to assess and fine-tune the Computerized Traffic Synchronization System of Davao City. A Traffic Control Center will also be established near the office of the Davao 911 located along the Ponciano Reyes Street.

The said traffic system will be tested again by the last week of January or the first week of February at about four intersections only to minimize any unforseen problems that might arise during the second dry run.

Hope everything will turn out fine. Everyone is really excited to see it work in smooth running condition.

To the Davao Traffic Management Group, thanks for your efforts and good luck to you!

Push Button

Davao Traffic Push ButtonCan someone please tell me how to use this push button?

Push Buttons such as these can be seen on the traffic posts on the city’s most trafficked areas. This is all part of the city government’s initiative to computerize the traffic control in Davao City. State-of-the-art traffic lights have already been installed — but, yet to be tested — on 29 major intersections all over Davao.

The flow of traffic is expected to increase by 35% during the Christmas seasons. So if you are planning for a shopping spree, be mindful of the traffic situation.
