We live our lives at warp speed, rushing from one family or work obligation to another. No wonder it can take the first few days of vacation to unwind completely.

Need help slowing down to island time? I strongly suggest Bluejaz Resort and Water Park in Samal. At first I thought it was quite odd to name a beach Bluejaz. (Though, mostly it is spelled as Blue Jazz especially when one is using the search engine to get information about the resort.) To me, it sounded more like a bar or restaurant. I asked some staff and they say the resort’s owner is named Jazmin Middelton and because the resort’s water is more or less blue. Put them all together and the name was born. That’s my conclusion by the way.

But what sets Bluejaz from the other resorts? Here is a rundown of my personal opinions based on first hand experience going to the resort.

Resort Amenities and Features:

Bluejaz offer luxurious cottages and rooms with an extensive menu of services that make it simple to get yourself renewed. Say for instance, for a family of five thinking of staying there for the night, Bluejaz has the so called The White House. It has four rooms each costing around P 3,000 inclusive of breakfast.

They also have the Fiji cottages, a more refreshing version of overnight stay, for a family of five (5) it cost around P2,995 (no breakfast) but if you want to avail of the breakfast package you simply pay P3,500 pesos.

If you think that is way out of budget, the 10-room Jasmin Cottages is available for P2,500 good for 4 persons. That’s way sensible, is it? You can ask friends to “chip in” and enjoy the night.

A better option I suggest is the overnight open cottages (although you have to endure if it rains or is freezing cold at night ), per head costs only PhP 200 for adults and PhP 100 pesos for kids 7-12 yrs old.

If vacation is not an option and a company conference or meeting is in the wings, I highly recommend the Bluejaz Resort. If that will make things a bit different. Bluejaz has ambience that is new and fresh which is sure to make everyone in the conference feel relaxed. How about your upcoming team building seminars and parties?

By the way, the resort is Wi-Fi Ready, so you can access the Internet anytime you want.

Using Bluejaz’s Pavillion Hall costs only PhP 3,500 per 5 hours, inclusive of whiteboard, mini-sound system for perfect for 50 to 100 persons in attendance. It is good for birthdays, anniversaries or beach weddings.

Pets And Other No-no?

There is one thing though that my friend dislike about the resort. She is fond of her pet dogs and always brings them anywhere she goes. At Blue Jazz Resort, pets are not allowed. So “Muning” and “Bantay” will have to endure the lock-up cage while you enjoy frolicking the beach waters.

Take note also that no bringing of drinks is allowed, so that means you have to order at the Resort. And if you want to save on food, I strongly suggest you rather order at the resort’s restaurant than bring in your own food. The corkage is quite expensive. Corkage for Lechon baboy and lechon baka, for example, is a tingling PhP 700 and PhP 1,500 from your pocket.

Other Resort Facilities:

If you want to have more fun, waterspouts is available for the taking. Just make sure you bring in extra cash. If you feel a little adventurous, a diving lessons is also available. Jet ski, banana boat, Kayak can also be enjoyed while you are there.

Day Tour Packages include free use of their famous three swimming pool, waterslides, beach (obviously), boat transfer and open cottages. Day tour costs PhP 90 for adults and PhP 70 for kids.

How To Go There:

Jump off point is at MaryKnoll Beach resort in Lanang for only PhP 30.00 per person

Maybe try to remove the 082 — that’s the area code of Davao. You may also use their email address: info@bluejaz.net. As for Jennifer’s inquiry, that should give you a hint to the company website.

This place is not all that it claims to be. The water in the swimming pool and Water Slide is dirty. The food is of poor quality. The rooms that are available to rent overnight are very very dirty and substandard. The A/C leaked on our bed, the TV only had a few local channels the bathroom was very dirty.
I do not recommend this place at all. There is a better alternative next door. Paradise Island is better by far and much morevalue for your pesos.

Sorry, Blue Jazz, this is true,,,,,,,,,,, I regret visiting there

As a regular visitor to Davao I have stayed at Bluejaz and Paradise. My latest visit took me back to Bluejaz Resort on Samal Island. I am always impressed with the improvements that have taken place since the resort opened. I have fallen fowl of slow service in the past at both Bluejaz and Paradise. I am glad bluejaz has made improvements in their service. They now have faster food options,a buffet at the weekend and charcoal grilled chicken and pork cooked and ready to eat off the barbecue. I guess they where overwhelmed by the number of visitors visiting there waterpark when it opened. They have opened a new beach area with tree covered seating on the beach front. I got to ride the zip line as well as the watersides. At the weekend they had a band on the beachfront Saturday and Sunday nights. On Sunday afternoon they have a family day with a magic show and games for the children. There is a lot to do at this resort, not just swimming and the beach, but wake boarding , jet skiing , waterskiing, watersides and zip line. Their Fiji rooms are beautiful. The air conditioning is quiet and works well. My air conditioning was no where near the bed and did not leak. The bathrooms where all natural stone and the bedroom floors where bamboo. I would recommend bluejaz over paradise as there is little to do after 5pm while at paradise resort and I find my self board there in the evening. Bluejaz had a fireworks display and a band and disco playing on a gigantic stage in the water in front of there infinity pool while I was there June 2010.
